Welcome Cocktail
Palazzo Isolani, Via Santo Stefano, 16, 40125 Bologna BO
Sunday, June 11th, 2023, h 19.00 PM
The Welcome Cocktail is an occasion for all participants to meet and interact with each other while enjoying local appetizers. The Welcome Cocktail will take place at the Palazzo Isolani, a historic building located next to the square of the Seven Churches in the center of Bologna.
Palazzo Isolani was built between 1451 and 1455 by Pagno di Lapo Portigiani da Fiesole in a style that marks the transition between Gothic and Tuscan Renaissance. The façade is arranged in two orders separated by a string course. The arcade with basket arches is supported by Corinthian capitals and is surmounted by a sequence of ogee one-light windows. The characteristic faces of six figures enclosed by circular medallions visually recall the nearby palace of the Bolognini family who had also acquired the Isolani building. Quite oddly, the portraits don 19th-century head-dresses, apparently the result of a later revision. The evocative gallery (Corte Isolani) is open to passers-by and links a series of inner courtyards with the Casa Isolani on Strada Maggiore and Palazzo Isolani on piazza S. Stefano.

In the heart of Bologna, overlooking one of the most stunning in the world, Palazzo Re Enzo was built at the beginning of the thirteenth century to house the Curia del Comune (Municipal Curia), later becoming the Palazzo Giuridico (Law Courts) and then the residence of the Podestàand of the People’s Captain. It was named after the king who was imprisoned there from 1249 to 1271, Enzi, the illegitimate son of Frederick II King of Sardinia, who was captured by the Bolognese at the Battle of Fossalta.
